Mom and I took a quick girls' getaway to Waco to eat, drink and relax. I am happy to say that we accomplished all three!
Road trip! (Mom's eyes are closed but I still thought this picture was so cute!)
Ann found these really cute cabins in Waco that are close to Magnolia Market and all the other Waco attractions. Mom and Ann stayed in a cabin in June and had so much fun that mom wanted to do it again so this time I joined her.
Home sweet cabin!
Mom and I hit the road at 9:00 am and had a pleasant drive to Waco. We drove straight to Homestead Village, a charming little craft village selling handmade items. They do woodworking, weaving, pottery making all onsite, and even have a working mill where they grind their own flour. They also have a tea room and a restaurant where Mom and I had a delicious lunch!
They grow their own herbs right on the property.
Cafe Homestead where we had our lunch.
I got the special -- jerk chicken tacos with mango salsa and homemade guacamole, delicious!
We stopped at the tea room for an iced tea before leaving.
I loved looking at all the handmade items and found lots of treats to take home. We had a great time at Homestead Village!
Around 2:00 we left for the cabin and got settled. The great thing about these cabins is that they have floor to ceiling windows which means you can stay inside and enjoy both the air conditioning and the view!
I took a video of our "drive" to the cabin!
We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon resting in the cabin before our dinner at Milo, a farm to table restaurant in Waco. It was a nice place and we enjoyed our meal.
We started with the kale and artichoke dip, which was to die for!
We split a burger and fries.
Then it was back to the cabin where we shared a bottle of wine and just visited and relaxed, what could be better?!
Cheers to vacation!
We were sad to go to bed that night, not wanting our vacation to end. But we still had a great day planned because the next day we were going to visit the famous Magnolia Market and have breakfast at Magnolia Table. Mom and Ann have visited the Market several times and I was excited to see what all the fuss was about.
Mom and I were both up early enough to catch the sunrise.
Getting up early meant we were able to have a leisurely morning at the cabin, enjoying our tea and coffee.
Before we left, I took a few pictures of the lake.
Then it was off to breakfast! After checking Open Table multiple times a day, I finally snagged a reservation at Magnolia Table.

Mom and I had to study the menu for awhile before we finally made our choices! I started off with the Sweet Greens juice that was just heavenly!
We finally decided on biscuits with a flight of butter (because where else can I order a flight of butter?!), avocado toast and a cinnamon roll from the famous Silos Bakery at the Market.
Sufficiently fueled, it was time to walk off Jo's biscuits at Magnolia Market!
Mom showed me everything: the bakery, Magnolia Home, the old chapel, the furniture store, and my favorite, the little "cottages" which were individual boutique shops.
Mom wanted to make sure I saw the plant store, Ferny's. It was so cute!
Next time, I would like to visit the bakery and see all the cottages, since that was my favorite part of the Market.
Thanks for showing me Magnolia, mom!
Although this was a short trip, mom and I managed to pack in alot of food, shopping, wine and most importantly, a lot of laughs. We had a great time together and this break was just what we both needed.
We will always have Waco! Until the next getaway!
