Trip to Fredricksburg

2013 was a busy year for the Gratts on vacation!  We ended up taking 4 small trips, staring with a trip over spring break to Fredricksburg, Texas.

We stayed at a bed and breakfast called Two Wee Cottages which was made up of two small houses on the property.  The larger house was booked so we chose the smaller of the two.

I was a little bummed this B&B did not offer a full hot breakfast, however, the homemade pastries and goodies the owners left every day proved to work out just fine.  The owners had anticipated every need and many times I said to Ben, "Wow they thought of everything!"

The place was quaint and spotless and even had a private screened back porch and hot tub.

We arrived late on a Saturday afternoon after stopping at Storm's Hamburgers in Hamilton (highly recommend).  We checked in and got our bearings and decided to check out Main Street a little before our dinner at Cabernet Grill.

Our server was very nice and our food delicious.  I had the surf and turf which was a tenderloin steak with coconut shrimp.  It came with the creamiest mashed potatoes ever.

Ben got the pork tenderloin with mashed sweet potatoes.  We had a glass of wine with dinner and it was a very nice meal.

On Sunday morning, we left our B&B around 8:15 a.m. to drive the short distance to hike Enchanted Rock.

The weather was beautiful, crisp and clear.  The hike to the top took approximately 30 minutes and was fairly challenging.  There are many cracks and ravines and I couldn't help but wonder how many ankles have been sprained up there!

After our hike, we spent the day on Main Street checking out all the little shops and doing a couple of wine tastings.

I found an antique shop and bought a beautiful crystal bowl for my grandmother's china cabinet.

We stopped in a Japanese garden.

We stopped at a Biergarten and I had their homemade sangria.  I had never tried sangria before and thought it was delicious.

That night we went back to the B&B, hit the hot tub which felt great after our day of walking, and ordered pizza.

We left the next morning for our drive back to Dallas.  I wished we had allowed time to visit some nearby wineries but overall it was a very nice weekend.
