Maui Day 6: Our 5-year wedding anniversary

Day 6 is our actual wedding anniversary.  I had a lovely day planned.  One of my fondest memories from our honeymoon was having breakfast on our lanai and then getting a couples massage.  So that sounded like a great thing to do again.  When I saw our first room, part of that plan went out the window but now that we had our new room, it was back on.

So our day was going to consist of:

Room service breakfast on the lanai (with mimosas using the champagne given to us by the Four Seasons)

Morning at a pool cabana

Oceanside couples massage at the Four Seasons spa

Back to our pool cabana for the afternoon

Sunset dinner at Ferraro's at the Four Seasons

Cocktails at the Lehue Lounge at the Hyatt Andaz

I was pretty pleased with my agenda.  We had carefully filled out our room service order the night before and breakfast was to arrive between 7:00-7:30 am.

We awoke at 6:00 am to a lovely moonrise.

Our breakfast arrives and the Four Seasons staff sets it up for us on the lanai.  It was lovely just like on our honeymoon.

So we proceeded to enjoy breakfast, mimosas and our lanai for about two hours.  We also exchanged our anniversary cards that we had brought for each other.

We got down to the pool around 9:30 am and got a pool cabana.

We enjoyed the pool until it was time for our massage at 11:00 am.  We booked a 50-minute lomi lomi massage to be side by side in an oceanside hale (which they told us means "Hawaiian home").  It's pronounced "hall-A" with a long "A."  I was pronouncing it "hail" in my best Texas accent.

Here's a picture of the hale from the Four Seasons website.

On our honeymoon, we just got a regular Swedish massage but this time I booked the lomi lomi which is a traditional Hawaiian technique.  It was very rhythmic.  It was awesome.  We could hear the sounds of the ocean crashing on Wailea beach.  Very soothing.  In hindsight, I would have booked the massage earlier in the morning so that the beach would quieter. But eventually, I didn't even hear people anymore, just the ocean.

Afterwards, we retreated to our individual locker rooms to enjoy the sauna.  The Four Seasons isn't known for their spa.  I knew already that there wouldn't be any other amenities like a whirlpool.  But this was more convenient and we could enjoy our own pools and hot tubs together instead of being separated.

Here are some pictures I took in the spa:

The sauna was nice and it wasn't too hot like many I've been to so I was able to enjoy it longer.  Afterwards, I met Ben back in the lounge and we went back out to the pool.  Our cabana was still there untouched so we just got back in it for the day where we enjoyed the pools and hot tubs for the afternoon.  I got a lava flow and Ben got a huge mai-tai in a pineapple.  It was delicious.

During our pool time, we began to discuss how to spend our last full day.  We thought about snorkeling at the Molokini crater which is about a 30-minute boat ride from South Maui, and even called a tour company to see if they had availability, which they did.  But since I now knew that we could walk to Ulua beach from our hotel, I suggested we just rent snorkel gear at the Four Seasons, and walk down to Ulua to try snorkeling.  Ben thought that sounded good.

This day was probably the calmest, most beautiful day we had weatherwise and I wrote down that it was 88 degrees.  There was just no wind at all and it was beautiful.  We could see on the weather websites that a front was due to come in tomorrow so we weren't sure what that would mean for our plans but hoped for the best.

We reluctantly left our cabana around 3:00 pm to go get ready for our dinner at Ferraro's.  This was the one night I planned to dress up so I needed some time.  I wore the beautiful dress Ben bought me on our honeymoon and I was very happy to still be able to wear it 5 years later.

After I was properly gussied-up, we made our way down to Ferraro's for our 5:30 sunset reservation.  I made these reservations 3 months in advance and we were given the perfect table.  Once we were seated, I asked the hostess to take our picture while my hair still looked good

We ordered our drinks and began to peruse the menu.  I ordered, what else?  A mango martini.

For dinner we began with an appetizer of calamari which Ferraro's split for us so we could each have our own individual portion.

For dinner, I had the special risotto which came with scallops and Ben had the beef short ribs.  I still can't decide which was better.  It was dark by this time so I couldn't get good pictures of our dinner.  Both entrees were just delicious.  Ben cut his meat with a fork.  My dish was good but really rich.  The scallops were cooked perfectly.

As we ate, we enjoyed sunset.  It was just perfect outside since there was no wind.

We were too full for dessert but they give you lemon ricotta donuts bagged up to take with you.  When I realized they were still warm, I ripped open the bag and we ate them right there at the table. They were yummy.  It was the perfect anniversary dinner.

After dinner, I wanted to go have drinks at the nearby Hyatt Andaz since I wanted to see it.  Everyone in Maui called it the "Ahn Dahz."  I had heard their Lehue Lounge uses fresh fruit, etc. for their mixers and their cocktails are supposed to be good.  And we like cocktails in case you were wondering.

So the Escalade drives us over (how in the world am I ever going to drive myself anywhere again?) and we shared it with a nice couple from Philadelphia who was going to Andaz to eat at Ka'ana Kitchen.  The Dallas Cowboys played the Philadelphia Eagles on Thanksgiving so we enjoyed some friendly banter on the way over.

We enjoyed the outdoor lounge which had a guy playing guitar and singing.  The drinks were good.  I got a drink called Beijing Peach, which was vodka, jasmine tea, white peach, lime juice, and sugar.  It was strong.

We stayed for awhile and then went back to the Four Seasons and to bed.  All in all, it was a perfect anniversary.  There was no one else I would rather enjoy it with and nowhere else I would rather be.

Next:  One last toast to Maui.
