Back to Broken Bow

Ben and I decided to take another trip to Broken Bow, Oklahoma in September since we had so much fun on our last visit.  This visit was pretty much a repeat of our last trip with lots of hiking, hot tubbing and relaxing!

All packed!

We stayed in a cabin called Little Dipper.  It had a nice outdoor area where we could enjoy the cool evenings and a nice grilling area for Ben.

Time to get this vacation started!

We picked up some fried catfish from a place in town and ate it as fast as we could since we were so hungry!  Then we sat outside and watched sunset before getting in the hot tub.

The next morning we left the cabin around 8:15 am to hike the 1.5 mile Friends Trail.  This was the same hike we did last time we visited and once again, we had it almost completely to ourselves!

Markers along the trail, keep us on track!

The trail begins with a hike through the forest.

The reward at the end is a beautiful view of the Mountain Fork River.

Ben and I sat and took in the view for a little while.

We walked down a little further so we could get a good view of the waterfall.

After the hike, we headed to Broken Bow Lake for the afternoon.  It was a little windy so it was too cold for me to get in the water but it was still a great day.  This area is called Eagle Point and Ben and I were thrilled to see an actual bald eagle fly right over us!

Ben decided to brave the water.

Lake selfie!

Before going back to the cabin, we decided to check out the trail we would be hiking the next day.  We saw there was a short loop we could do so we decided to do a quick hike before dinner.

We would be back the next day to hike the whole trail.

Back at the cabin, Ben grilled the best hamburgers ever for dinner!

A lizard decided to join us. Ben wouldn't let me feed it.

I devoured this burger in about 1 minute!  It was so good!

Then it was another sunset out on the patio before a dip in the hot tub.

The next morning we drove to hike the 4-mile Lakeview Lodge Trail.  This was a long hike through the forest that ended with a view of Broken Bow Lake.  We got there early because we knew it was going to rain and we wanted to have the hike done by noon.

Ready for our 4-mile hike!

No sign of rain yet--it was a beautiful morning!

The leaves were just starting to change on this last day of summer.

It was a long walk through the forest.  Along the way, Ben spotted two deer.  I have never been so close to deer before, it was really cool!

Just a peek of the lake through the trees.

And then a beautiful view closer to the end.

We did it!

Before we left, I wanted to see the view of the lake from the back of Lakeview Lodge.

After that long hike, we were starving.  We decided to try and get pizza from the famous pizza place in town.  We called them as soon as they opened at 11 am.

Score!  It was good pizza and we finished every bite of it.

It rained the rest of the day so we got in the hot tub.  We kept the temperature low so we could stay in all day.  Hot tubbing in the rain is the best!

Ben grilled hot dogs for dinner.  I set up the table so we could both have a view while we ate.

It was such a great day even with the rain!

The next morning, Ben packed up while I had some porch time.

And then it was back home.

We had another great weekend in Broken Bow.  We will definitely be back!

Ben and I rented a cabin in the Ozarks for the first week in November to see the fall foliage, and to do more hiking, this time in Arkansas.  We hope to be able to fly safely again next year, but until then, we will enjoy vacations closer to home.  On to the next road trip!
