Friends Trip to Broken Bow

Ben and I decided to visit Broken Bow for Memorial Day weekend and we invited our friends Nick and Kate to join us.  We were excited to spend the weekend with them relaxing in one of our favorite places.

We met up with them in Paris, home of the famous Eiffel Tower!

We went next door and spent a little time at the war memorial which was fitting for Memorial Day weekend.

We decided to stop and have lunch at the famous Burger Land.  This restaurant gets great reviews on Yelp and since we all love burgers, we decided to check it out to see what all the fuss was about!

The fries were great but we all thought the burgers were just ok.  The ones we cooked at the cabin were much better!

But it was still a fun stop and at least we can say we tried it!

About an hour and a half later, we were in Hochatown!

We got to our cabin around 4:00 p.m.

The cabin was surrounded by beautiful trees.

After unpacking, we decided to take a drive to show Nick and Kate Broken Bow Lake.

We drove over to Beavers Bend Brewery and sat out on the patio.  We had beautiful breezy weather the whole weekend!

Then it was back to the cabin and we sat in the hot tub talking until late into the evening. We were all having a great time already!

The next morning, Ben and I were up early so we went outside and sat on the patio so we didn't disturb Nick and Kate.  I had my tea and watched the sunrise.

A beautiful cardinal joined us!

Kate joined me later and while we were talking, she spotted a deer right next to the cabin.  I was able to quickly get a picture before he scurried away.

We had decided the night before that we would get to Grateful Head pizza right when they opened so we would be sure to get a seat!

YUM!

After lunch, we drove out to Pine Lake Resort to check out the cabin that Ben and I will be staying in with our families for Thanksgiving.  The cabin was rented so we only got to take a picture from the road but we also checked out the amenity center.

This is the cabin we will stay in on our trip over Thanksgiving.  I can't wait already!

We showed Nick and Kate the Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park.

They have some really neat exhibits and some old structures from the 1800's on the property.

Then it was over to the Choctaw casino in Broken Bow where we had hoped to play video poker but sadly, the machine we tried to play kept malfunctioning.  So we didn't stay long.

They had also taken out my favorite slot machine!  I think Ben and I will just wait for the new casino in Hochatown to open.

Back in Hochatown, we stopped off at a cocktail bar called the Tasting Room for a drink.

Kate and I got a blackberry margarita that was so good!

Then we went next door to the other local brewery, Mountain Fork Brewery.  There was a band playing and we sat outside and the guys had a beer.

Then it was back to the cabin for burgers on the grill.

Burger perfection!

After dinner, I sat on the patio and watched Ben and Kate play a rousing game of cornhole.

They kept thinking of new ways to try and score!

Then it was back in the hot tub!

The next day was Memorial Day and Ben, Nick and I decided to get up early to hike Friends Trail.  Kate wasn't able to join us due to a knee injury so she relaxed at the cabin while the three of us went hiking.

Let's do this!

Made it!

We had a great time showing Nick our favorite trail in Broken Bow!

We decided to stop by the lake before going back to the cabin.  It was a beautiful breezy morning by the lake and I didn't want to leave!

Ben skipped some rocks...

...while Nick looked for crystals....

...and I did this!

Ben and I got a rare picture together at the lake!

Lake selfie!

On the way back to the cabin, there was a line of cars streaming out of Hochatown.  I was so glad we weren't leaving until the next day!

Back at the cabin, we were treated to a fabulous brunch by Kate!  I was starving and didn't leave one bite!

After brunch, we went to the Broken Tiki which is a tiki bar in the state park that also does boat tours.  We wanted Nick and Kate to see it since they love all things tiki!

We had the bar to ourselves the whole time since everyone else was out on the boat.

We then went and sat by the lake one last time.

There's the tiki boat!

We got hot dogs from the Wienery food truck at Beavers Bend Brewery and then went back to the cabin and had one last dip in the hot tub before bed.

The next morning, Kate made me a cup of her Vietnamese coffee which I had tried a sip of the day before.  This was the first time I have ever drank an entire cup of coffee!  Thanks Kate!

I sat in the armchair as long as I could but eventually it was time to pack up and say goodbye to our friends and to Broken Bow!  We had a great time together as always!

We will all be together again in September, this time on Maui!  We can't wait to show Kate our other favorite place!

Time to plan the next vacation!
