Oh Canada! Our Day in Halifax

We were officially already halfway through the cruise and we could feel our trip starting to wind down.  But we still had three more ports plus a sea day to enjoy!

Our day in Halifax started with another beautiful sunrise.

Right across our balcony was a view of Georges Island which is a National Historic Site famous for its 18th and 19th-century military fortifications.  Some visitors take a ferry from Halifax to the island.

Off we go!

Today was a day I was really looking forward to.  We were starting the day by visiting Peggy's Point Lighthouse c.1914 located at Peggy's Cove about an hour from the cruise port.

On the bus to Peggy's Cove!

I didn't bother with many window pictures but I got a few.

The lighthouse is situated on a granite outcrop at Peggy's Point. You are allowed to go out on the rocks but we were given instructions to be very careful, as many accidents have occurred here.

Even though it was crowded, I still thought it was a very beautiful place and was happy with my pictures.

We were told that the lobster roll at Tom's was good so we decided to try it.

We shared a roll but I ended up wishing I had one all to myself.  It was soooo good, my favorite one I had on the trip!

I want another one right now.

Some scenes from the ride back.  The fall color and scenery was very pretty.

We got back to the port around noon and still had a few hours to explore the port area before going back to the ship.  There is alot to see right in the port area.

Lunch was at a pub called the Brown Hound.

Ben got another lobster roll! Not as good as the one at Tom's.

Imposter.
I skipped lunch because I had to leave room for my Cows ice cream!

They make their own homemade waffle cones right in the store.

While eating our ice cream, we met a couple from Dallas who had just toured the Halifax Public Gardens.  We parted ways with Nick and Kate to try and make our way to the gardens in time to tour the park and get back to the ship.  It was about a 20-minute walk each way so we needed to hustle.

The Victorian-era gardens opened to the public in 1875 and encompass 16 acres. The gardens are maintained by donations and open year-round.

We took so many pictures!  It was a beautiful park and I kept thinking how great it was that it was free!

Ben practiced his macro photography.

The bandstand, built in 1887, is used for free public concerts on Sunday afternoons during the summer.

The Horticultural Hall built in 1847 contains an information desk where visitors can sign up for tours and information and make a donation.  The tall elm tree on the left dates back to the opening of the gardens in 1875.

It also has a coffee shop so Ben and I got a much-needed latte for our power walk back to the ship.

Back on board, we sat out on the pool deck waiting for sailaway.

When you hear the Love Boat theme, you know the ship is leaving!

I went up to the cabin for a jacket and found the pilot boat cruising right outside our balcony.

Kate getting the perfect shot.

Beautiful photo taken by Kate.
We didn't make dinner plans for this night so everyone did their own thing.  Ben and Nick wanted to try the sushi so they went to the Ocean Terrace.

I just couldn't get excited about cruise ship sushi, so I went and got pizza and made a salad at the buffet.

This is why I gained four pounds.
We all met back in the casino for drinks and video poker!

Ben and I went over to the Piazza and listened to the house band.  We enjoyed all the live music and I wish we had made plans to watch some of the performances from a table with a drink.  We were having too much fun in the casino!

Tomorrow we would be taking a tour in Saint John, New Brunswick!
