Journey to Alaska Day 6: Ketchikan

We woke up in Ketchikan, Alaska!

Ready to explore!

We decided to order room service today since our excursion was at 8:30.  I just had yogurt and an English muffin and Ben got a full breakfast.  This was the only time we ordered room service, it wasn’t great but it did the job.
We booked the Misty Fjords Wilderness Cruise through Princess as our excursion.  I was a little apprehensive about this as your enjoyment really depends on what kind of weather you get and if you happen to see wildlife.
But we loved it since the scenery was great and we saw lots of wildlife.  We saw whales and the boat operator stayed as long as she possibly could so we could see them before having to get us back to port. The boat provided hot chocolate, chili or chowder (which I didn’t have but Ben did), and really good quality binoculars.  We enjoyed the whole trip a lot.

Walking to the dock, I tried to snap a few pictures:

Our boat:

Today was around 50 degrees and misty--but that just added to the experience!  I had my raingear on so I was all set!

I tried to capture the beauty of the fjords but of course my pictures don't do it justice!

Eddystone rock:

We saw eagles:

And seals:

We saw some whales too but I wasn't able to get any pictures.

The forest that you see in many of my pictures is the Tongass National Forest which is second in size only to the Amazon.

On the way back in, I got a shot of the port and our ship:

Since we stayed a little later than our scheduled time, we didn’t have time to walk around Ketchikan much, although I did go to the Tongass trading post for some really quick souvenirs.
Back on the ship, Fran and Harvey went their way and Ben and I decided to try out the Pub Lunch at the Bayou Café.  We got the fish and chips of course!

Then it was out to the balcony for awhile to watch sailaway.

I had ordered afternoon tea to be delivered in our suite.  When the lady brought it in, I thought there was some mistake—it was so much food!  She assured me it was just tea for two.

We called Fran and Harvey over to help us finish it.  We all sat and talked for awhile and then Ben and I took a nap.
We had pre-booked dinner at the other specialty restaurant, Sabatini’s for this night.

I got a salad, the penne with short rib, and even though I didn’t really want it, the NY strip steak (Ben promised to help me eat it).

There was also bread with olive oil, and prosciutto on crackers on the table.  Everything was yummy and that pasta was so delicious—I could have eaten that pasta every night!
After dinner, Ben and I went for a drink at Crooners and then went up to the room.

I got a few pictures from the balcony before bed.

Tomorrow we would be in Juneau where we took our favorite excursion!
