Hawaii Anniversary Cruise: Embarkation day!

Today was Saturday, embarkation day!  Today we would finally be boarding the ship for the cruise!

I really wanted to hike to the top of the Diamond Head crater to see the famous view of Honolulu from the top.  The park opened at 6:00 am so Jason, Alice, Ben and I all met at 5:30 am and took a Lyft to the park.

When we got to the park, there was already a long line of cars to get in and once we started walking, people were literally racing by us.  I couldn't figure out why everyone was in such a hurry!

It wasn't long before I realized that everyone was hurrying to try and make it to the lookout for sunrise at 6:30 am.  I had not even thought about sunrise when I planned this!  But as luck would have it, we made it in time to see the sun rise over the ocean.

We waited a bit for the top to clear out and then we walked up to the top to see the view of Honolulu.  We could even see the Pride of America sailing into port.

There's our ship!

Back at the hotel, we went to the Royal Hawaiian bakery for breakfast which was yummy.  Then we all went back to our rooms to get ready and met back in the lobby at 10:30 am to be picked up and transported to the port.  I was sad to say goodbye to the Royal Hawaiian but luckily we would be back to spend the day after the cruise was over.

Once at the port, we dropped off our luggage and went into the main waiting area where we were greeted with leis.

As suite guests, we were then escorted to our own private check-in area, checked in, had our picture taken, and given our ship cards.  And then before we knew it, we were being escorted on to the ship!

We were taken straight to the restaurant, Cagney's, that is only for suite guests for breakfast and lunch.  I wasn't even really that hungry but that didn't stop me from getting a salad and shrimp and scallops!  And my welcome aboard cocktail of course!

Fran got macadamia nut ice cream and it was so delicious--I am still dreaming about that ice cream!

After lunch, our rooms on Deck 12 were ready so went up to see our home for the next week.  Ben and I had an adjoining suite with Jason and Alice.  It was a wonderful home for a week!

Our luggage was there too so we unpacked and got situated before walking around the ship a little before the safety drill.

Our dinner reservation that night was at the Italian restaurant La Cucina at 6:00 pm, right as we started sailing away from Oahu.

Tomorrow when we woke up, we would be docking in Maui!
