Hawaii Anniversary Cruise: Maui Day 1

On Sunday, I got up and watched the sunrise as the ship pulled in to dock at my favorite place in the world, Maui!

Ben and I and Fran and Harvey had breakfast at Cagney's.  I had juice and a parfait and didn't even take any pictures--I think I was too excited to eat!

Since Ben and I have been to Maui several times, we were going to drive the family to all of our favorite places, ending with happy hour at the Point Bar at Merriman's in Kapalua.  Kapalua is where Ben and I spent our honeymoon in 2009.  Since we would be on Maui overnight, there was no rushing to get back to the ship.

Welcome to Maui!

We picked up our minivan at the airport and were on the road to Kapalua about 9:15 am.  The drive would take us about an hour but it's a beautiful drive to make.

Ben in our second minivan of the trip!

We got to Kapalua around 10:15 and parked in the overflow parking lot which was a short walk to the beach.

The beautiful Kapalua pine trees!

We walked to Kapalua Bay and rented chairs and umbrellas so Fran and Harvey could relax in the shade.

I was ready for some relaxation myself and Kapalua is my happy place!

After a couple of hours, we were ready to leave the beach.  I really wanted Fran and Harvey to see some of the beautiful Kapalua coastal trail, even though I knew we couldn't walk too much of it.  It's a long trail with very little shade but it's very picturesque coastline and a walk Ben and I like to make every trip.

We walked over to the Montage resort so everyone could see the beautiful lobby and grounds.

Once there, Harvey decided he would stay in the air conditioning and watch everyone's bags while the rest of us walked to just the first point on the trail.

I just love this picture of Ben and his mom!

I was happy we made it that far and now everyone was ready for lunch so we collected Harvey and drove to the Burger Shack at the Ritz Carlton, the hotel Ben and I stayed at on our honeymoon.  The Burger Shack has great burgers and milkshakes and it's right on the beach.

We finished lunch around 3:15, which meant we could head over to happy hour at Merriman's.

The sun was too high to sit outside so we got the last six seats in the bar and ordered drinks and some poke.  Ben had to drink a mocktail since he was driving but the one he ordered was delicious and Harvey decided to get one too!

I got Merriman's famous mai tai, one of the few mai tais, I actually like!

After Merriman's we drove back to the port area and parked the car at the airport since we would be using it the next day.

Back on the ship, Ben, Fran and I got in the hot tub for awhile, then Ben and I walked around a little in the gift shops and saw a bit of the "Aloha Polynesian" show in the theater.  We went and had a snack at the Cadillac Diner and then went back to our cabin where we had a towel animal waiting for us from our room steward.

It was a wonderful day on Maui and we still had another one to look forward to tomorrow!
