So Ben and I quickly tackled the question of where to go. We thought a cruise would be a good idea and we knew we would want to go in the fall of 2017 since we had a big summer vacation already planned. Cruises to New England are very popular in early October and we thought a cruise out of Boston would be a good idea so we could visit Ben's brother, Jason, while we were there.
But once we started researching cruises that went out of Boston, we came across the option of a cruise to Bermuda. Bermuda sounded much better to me since I would rather be on a beach than somewhere cold! We picked one of the last cruises of the season so we would have a better chance of not being impacted by a hurricane--which ended up being a smart choice!
So we ended up on the Norwegian Dawn sailing from Boston to Bermuda where we would remain docked for 2 nights, which allowed us to come and go off the ship as we pleased--something we had never experienced before on a cruise.
Our ship:
We decided to arrive in Boston the day before the cruise so we would not have to worry about delays or missing the ship. My boss gave us a night at the Aloft Hotel in Boston for my birthday. Since the cruise would end on a Friday, we decided to spend the following weekend in Boston with Jason. So we were all set!
Finally we were off!
We got to our hotel and found we had a great view of the harbor. We would be able to see our ship from our room the next morning.
We had decided to get pizza at a place where Ben could try a beer that he cannot get at home. I really wanted to see Fenway Park instead but since this was Ben's only request, I couldn't say no. The pizza was good too!
We asked our waitress if there was anywhere we could walk to and she suggested the Chestnut Hill Reservoir where we could see the sunset. So we got our steps in and saw a little of Boston on our own.
We took a Lyft back to the harbor area and stopped for a drink at Legal Harborside.
Back at our hotel, we sat in the bar for awhile and Ben found a guitar.
Then it was off to bed to get ready to leave for our cruise the next morning!
