Here she is:
On Saturday, April 20, we got packed up and ready to make the drive to Galveston where we would spend the night before boarding the ship the next morning.
The great thing about cruising out of Galveston? No weight limits!
Nick was nice enough to drive us to Galveston. The guys somehow made everything fit in the car!
On the way, we made the required bathroom stop!
Passing through Houston.
We stopped for pizza at a place Kate picked for us, Star Pizza, and then walked across the street and got ice cream.
Kate's mom lives in Houston and joined us for lunch. She is a lovely lady and we all enjoyed our visit with her.
Ben and I are fans of a show called My 600 lb. Life about a doctor in Houston that treats morbidly obese people and shares their success stories. Since his office was so close, Ben and I just had to stop there for a photo op!
We made it to our hotel in Texas City around 4:00 p.m., checked in and then drove to Galveston for dinner at the famous restaurant, Gaido's.
We walked around and had a couple of drinks before dinner. We stayed in the Seawall area since that was where we were having dinner but we all agreed we much prefer the area near the port called the Strand and plan to go straight there on future visits.
It was pretty warm so we stopped at Gaido's for a drink.
We still had time before dinner so we had a drink at a place called the Spot. I was wearing beads in case I ran into any members of my cruise group on Facebook. We wore the beads to identify ourselves.
I had a couple of friends recommend Gaido's restaurant. It opened in Galveston in 1911. We all really enjoyed our meal and I had the best crab cake I have ever tasted, I am still dreaming about it!
The waiter brought me a free dessert which was a nice ending to a lovely dinner.
After dinner, we headed back to the hotel. In the morning, we would be boarding the ship!
