Friends on Maui Day 3: Sightseeing in Lahaina

Day three started bright and early because once again we were all up before sunrise!

The first thing on the agenda for today was the Maui Farmer's Market.  I always love to come here for fruit, banana bread and their famous lilikoi cream cheese!

After shopping, Ben and I decided to take the short walk back to the condo while Nick and Kate went and got coffee.

We stopped at a small beach.

Back at the condo, we relaxed on the lanai.

We saw our first honu (or Hawaiian green sea turtle) from the lanai.  We saw dozens of turtles swim by the condo during the week.

Nick and Kate felt like taking a drive so we went and drove around the neighborhood next to our condo.

How the other half lives!

Around 1:00 p.m., we drove to Front Street in the town of Lahaina so Kate could see all the shops and some of Lahaina's historic landmarks.  We planned to end the day with happy hour at Fleetwood's.

It's always hot in Lahaina but we came prepared!

Lahaina is best known for the huge Banyan tree, one of Hawaii's most popular landmarks.  Planted in front of the Lahaina Courthouse in 1873, the tree is the size of an entire city block and stands more than 60-feet high.

Kate got a great shot of the banyan tree!

The Lahaina courthouse served as the palace for King Kamehameha III in the early 1800s. This spot is most notable for the lowering of the Hawaiian flag in 1898, followed by the raising of the American flag, marking the formal annexation of Hawaii by the United States.

After some window shopping, we headed over to Fleetwood's which is owned by Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac.  The restaurant is very popular for happy hour and the sunset rooftop ceremony.  And the food and drinks are great too!

The Fleetwood's happy hour burger was voted by Nick and Ben to be the best burger of the trip!

We made it back to the condo in time to watch a beautiful sunset.

Another great day in the books!  Tomorrow we would show Kate our favorite place on Maui, Kapalua!
