Granbury Me Camp 2022

Earlier this year,  I decided I wanted to take a short trip alone, just me, somewhere where I spent a day by myself doing whatever I wanted.  I was inspired by Jen Hatmaker, a hilarious Christian author/blogger I follow on Facebook.  She started doing Me Camp and posting about it and it looked so relaxing I decided I wanted to try it.

For location, I chose Granbury, Texas which is a short drive but long enough where it would feel like a road trip.  Mom and Ann visited Granbury in 2020 and stayed at the Inn on Lake Granbury.  After looking at the rooms, I decided it fit the bill -- my room would have a patio, a jetted tub and the Inn had a pool and free breakfast.  Everything a Me Camper could want!

I kissed Ben goodbye and put my suitcase and pool bag in the car and hit the road.  Ninety minutes later, I was in the historic downtown square.

My plan was to start Me Camp by having brunch on the square and going in and out of all the little shops for as long as I wanted, something Ben would not enjoy nearly as much as I would.  I headed to a restaurant called Christina's for brunch and a mimosa!

I had a nice table upstairs.  I got the "Gary sandwich," which was basically egg, cheese, bacon and turkey on a bagel, and a mimosa with fresh squeezed juice.  It was yummy.

Then I was ready to explore the downtown square.

The Granbury opera house.

The problem with this plan was that it was only 11:30 on a Sunday so most stores were not open yet.  So to kill time, I decided to walk the .40 miles to City Beach Park which is a manmade beach on Lake Granbury.

On the way, I passed this old house built in 1905.  Granbury is full of historical charm, which I loved!

I made it to the beach and got my first real view of the lake.

I made it back to the square shortly before noon and the square was alot more crowded.

I walked the entire square going in and out of the shops and walking off my brunch.  All around the square there would be doors or parts of building that were original from the 1800s with a historical marker for each one.

I found the Hood County Jail Museum which is an old jail from 1885 where you can see the actual jail cells.  I always love to see old jails and courthouses so I went and paid $5 to take a tour.

The volunteer there told me all about the history of the jail and then I was allowed to go upstairs and see the jail cells.  There was still graffiti on the walls from the former inhabitants.

This was the women's cell, although sometimes men were held here too.

Graffiti from 1896!

Then I went into the men's cell.  This was a holding or overflow cell.

I took a video of the men's cell.  Not a place you want to be!

The museum had so many artifacts, it was hard to see them all.  The volunteer pointed out this one, which was an old "Be on the Lookout Notice" from 1895!

It was so interesting and I really enjoyed it!

I had planned to get ice cream on the square but I was still too full from brunch.  I was craving an iced tea so I stopped at the Oz Coffee Bar which had a black tea flavored with rose petals and honey, it was delicious!  I enjoyed it outside with a view of the courthouse.

It was such a beautiful day, breezy and only 76 degrees at 1:30!  But I was ready to head to the Inn for some pool time!

I was not allowed to check in yet so I walked the beautiful grounds and sat by the lake.  Sitting by the lake in the shade, felt so good, I decided to do that instead of going to the pool.

I found a swing with my name on it!

I sat in the swing until 3:00 when it was time to check into my room.

I chose this room specifically for the patio and the view, which was even better than I expected!

That's my room with the balcony!

By now the temperature was above 80 so I decided it was time to hit the pool.

I sat at the pool until 5:00 when I left to get ready for the wine and appetizers that would be brought to my room.  Mom gave me a great idea to order a snack from the Inn so I got a fruit and cheese plate to go with the wine and enjoyed it all on my patio!

My room had wine glasses and a corkscrew so I will know for next time!

The Inn gave me a huge tumbler of wine so I saved some of it to enjoy in the tub!

Unfortunately, the jets in the tub didn't fully work and were really noisy so it wasn't as relaxing as I hoped.  Next time, I would just bring bubble bath and soak in the tub instead.  But the jets that did work felt nice.

After my bath, I watched the Cowboy game and read my book until I feel asleep.

Although I slept good, I woke up very early, before the sun even came up.  Around 7:00, I went downstairs and got a cup of tea to have out on the balcony.

As I was having tea, I could see a beautiful sunrise through the trees to my left.  It was then I realized I could have gone down to the lake and watched all of sunrise from there and hated that I missed that opportunity.  I decided to run down and take a picture, because I could see it was a really good one!

The moon to the west was really pretty too.

When you have a view like this, it's a two cup morning!

I finally dragged myself off the patio around 8:30 a.m. to get ready for breakfast which started at 9:00.  I wanted to make sure I got the best table on the porch.

The lake looked really pretty in the morning light.

As I was leaving to go to breakfast, I saw that there was fresh breads by the coffee maker, so I grabbed one to take with me to breakfast.  I got a front row seat on the porch for breakfast.

The first course was fruit and juice, which I had with my blueberry bread, yum!

Then eggs, bacon, potatoes, and the most yummy warm apple and blueberry cobbler, so good!

It was so lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed my peaceful breakfast by the lake.

Back in my room, I couldn't resist another cup of tea to go with the rest of my blueberry bread.  I chose an herbal tea though without caffeine.  I found one called winter spice with apple and cinnamon that went so good with my bread.

I sat on the patio until 10:00 a.m. and then reluctantly went inside to pack up and say goodbye to the Inn on Lake Granbury.  Until next time!

I decided I wanted to take a little walk before heading home so I drove to a small park about 5 minutes away and walked off some of my delicious breakfast.  The trail wasn't the greatest but the park was really pretty.

I stopped at the square one last time to use the restroom before hitting the road.

Goodbye Granbury!

Me Camp.  It's a place to unwind, relax, read, reflect, drink tea, sit at the pool, browse the shops, walk in the park.  Just you.  For you.  This was my first Me Camp but it won't be my last.
