Today we were taking Nick to our favorite place on Maui, Kapalua, where Ben and I spent our honeymoon. But first we went to the Sea House for breakfast on Napili Bay.
I had already had banana bread at the condo, so this was my breakfast.
Then it was off to rent some snorkel gear and then we headed over to Kapalua Bay.
The bay is usually very calm but on this day it was pretty rough and I didn't feel confident enough to snorkel too much so I just swam around on my boogie board. The boys snorkeled for a couple of hours and saw lots of fish and even honu (Hawaiian for sea turtle).
After a while at the beach, we put on our walking shoes to go and walk some of the Kapalua Coastal Trail.
After our walk, we packed up our stuff and drove about 20 minutes to the Nakalele Blowhole.
"When high tide and high surf combine you are likely to witness an explosive show from the Nakalele Blowhole. This phenomenon is caused by the ocean undercutting the shore and forcing seawater up through a large hole in the lava shelf."
We got to the blowhole and hiked the 1,200 feet down to the blowhole (I had in my notes that it was 200 ft. so I was in for a bit of a shock when I got there!) It is not an easy hike and luckily the new hiking shoes I bought worked great. I couldn't take any pictures until we actually got to the blowhole since I had to watch my footing the whole time.
Here is a picture I took from the road before we started hiking:
Once we got there, it was really blowing pretty good! I told Nick and Ben not to get too close!
The topography there made for some beautiful pictures.
On the way back, we stopped for lunch in Kapalua and then it was off to happy hour at the famous Maui restaurant Merriman's at the Point Bar overlooking Kapalua Bay.
I got their famous Mai Tai and it was yummy and not too strong like most Mai Tais.
On the way back to the condo, we stopped for takeout at Fish Market Maui. I got the Baja fish taco plate and it was really good.
After dinner, it was pina coladas on the balcony while watching the sunset.
We were pooped after our day and were in bed before 8:00 p.m.!
