Friends Trip to Maui: Day 2 - Whale watching

On Saturday, we were all up around 5:00 a.m.  We are definitely not on island time yet!

We had breakfast in the condo and I had my favorite breakfast of a bagel with lillikoi cream cheese, apple bananas and POG.  It was still too dark to eat outside!

Eventually it got light outside.

Today was our whale watch with Hawaii Ocean Project.  We have never been on Maui during whale season so this was exciting!  We booked with HOP because they are well known for their big, stable boats and are well-regarded on Maui.

Our boat was the Kaulana.

I brought my new DSLR to try and capture the whales.  I did not bring the zoom lens so all of my whale shots were from far away.  But I still managed to get some good ones!

Thar she blows!

Whale tale!

Pectoral fin.

We finally saw a breach and I just started snapping like crazy!  This is how far away I really was.

But zoomed in, you can see that I got a pretty good shot!

We had a great time and saw and heard lots of whales which was a really fun experience.

After the whale watch, we walked around the town of Lahaina and then went and had lunch.

When in Lahaina, you have to get a picture under the famous Banyan Tree.

Lunch was oceanside at Pacific O restaurant.

I got their drink special of the day, a lillikoi and mint cocktail, yum!

And fish tacos, which I always have to have on Maui!

After lunch, we got shave ice at Ululani's, another Maui must do!

After lunch, we went to Mick Fleetwood's bar called--what else--Fleetwoods!  I was hoping we would catch Mick's show but we missed it by two days, bummer!

On the way back to the condo, we stopped by Fish Market Maui for takeout and I got my favorite Baja fish taco plate, mmmmmm!

Then it was time for sunset on the lanai.

Tomorrow we would show Ben H. our favorite place on Maui, Kapalua!
