Napili Bay, one of my favorite beaches.
Today we were going to hike the Ohai Trail in northwest Maui which would be a new hike for all of us. It's an easy 1.2 mile loop with great coastal views. It rained all the way to the trail but when we got there, there was no rain and a nice breeze so it made for a great hiking day!
We then drove back west to the Nakalele (which means "leaning") Blowhole. Nick, Ben and I had hiked down to the blowhole in 2016 but we wanted to do it again so Ben H. could see it. It's a long hike down a rock path so you need good hiking shoes but getting to see the blowhole up close is a great payoff!
Our hike down to the blowhole.
It was blowing good so no one could get too close to it which means we got great pictures!
Blowhole selfie!
The topography at Nakalele Point is one of my favorites on Maui.
From our vantage point, I was able to get pictures of the famous "heart rock" which I had missed on our previous trip.
Back on the road, we made one more stop to see Honolua Bay. This is a very popular snorkeling spot that I had always wanted to see. There was no parking to actually hike down to the bay itself, so we just stopped and viewed it from the overlook.
Honolua (meaning "two harbors") is part of the Honolua-Mokule'ia conservation district so there are many fish to be found there. Hopefully we will be able to try snorkeling here on a future trip!
Back at the condo, we all rested and had one more delcious pina colada on the patio. The drinks we make ourselves are always the best ones!
We then got ready for our dinner at Merriman's restaurant in Kapalua, a very famous restaurant on Maui owned by Peter Merriman, who has several restaurants on the islands. It has a beautiful view of sunset from the restaurant and I was excited to finally get to eat here.
Since I was all dressed up, I made Ben take a picture before we left for dinner. It's probably my favorite of the whole trip--I just love how relaxed and happy we look!
I had read about a cocktail at Merriman's called the No Ka Oi which means "only the best" in Hawaiian. I don't know if it was the best cocktail I've ever had, but it was really good!
For dinner, Ben got the poke appetizer...
I got a salad...
For my entree, I got a split of the filet and scallops...
Ben got the filet and ahi sashimi...
And we ended it with pineapple bread pudding.
It was all great and we were stuffed!
In between courses, we waited for sunset.
It was a great meal with our friends and although a bit of a splurge, it was totally worth it!
I can't believe tomorrow is already our last full day--how will we make the most of it?
