Anniversary Trip: Back on Maui!

So after going to Maui in January and Vegas in August, Ben and I had not planned on taking any more vacations this year.  Honest!  But as the year went by and we realized we didn't have another vacation planned until my 50th birthday cruise next April, we decided we would try and do another small vacation this fall over our 9-year wedding anniversary.

We looked at Mexico or a cruise to the Caribbean out of New Orleans, but the Caribbean was in the middle of a huge messy seaweed outbreak that was affecting almost every island.  So that ruled out a lot of our choices.

Hawaii is wonderful in the fall--perfect weather and hurricane season is over.  And no terrible seaweed to worry about!  Even though we had already been to Maui once this year, I convinced Ben to go again in November.  We had enough airline miles to cover our airfare and we chose an inexpensive condo right on the beach.  Maui doesn't have to be overly expensive if you are willing to spend less on lodging and excursions.  Since all we really wanted to do was relax on the beach, we decided to do it.  There is just nothing better than Maui in the fall, at least to us!

So with that, we're off!

We watched movies and football to pass the time and before we knew it, Maui was coming into view!

Before we knew it, we were landing and on our way to Alamo to get our car.  The line was the longest we had ever seen it but no line for us, we skipped it and went straight to the cars, woo hoo.  We had light traffic on the way to Kaanapali and it was a beautiful sunny day, a promise of a great week to come.

We stopped at a place called Star Noodle for dinner.  We hadn’t been to Star Noodle before and were excited to try it as it gets great reviews.  The restaurant is very nice on the inside.  We split the pork buns, miso salmon and garlic noodles.  It was good, but it didn’t blow us away or anything.  We were happy to try it but wouldn’t make a point to go back.  Perhaps we were too tired to appreciate it.

We made our way to our little condo at Maui Kaanapali Villas.    It was small but had everything we needed. We loved our little condo with its huge lanai that overlooked the pool and was so big we could enjoy it at all times of day.  We loved the quiet pool just steps away from our unit.  Everyone we encountered was so nice, we loved the location, the beach, pretty much everything.

We unpacked, got settled, and then went down to Castaway Café, the onsite restaurant, for a lava flow for me.  No restaurant lava flow will ever match the lava flows Ben makes but I didn't want him to have to mess with making them for me all week.

Boy, do we look tired!

After that we got in the hot tub for awhile before bed at 9:00.  We were just so happy to be on Maui and were looking forward to the week ahead.
