Maui Anniversary Trip Day 3: Kapalua

Today we were doing our favorite thing on Maui which is to spend the day on Kapalua Beach.  I always take more pictures on this day than any other!

We had our traditional breakfast at the Sea House on Napili Bay which was good as always.

Since we had our gear already we were able to get to the beach early and were on the beach and in the water by 8:30 am. This was great because snorkeling conditions are usually best in the morning.

My happy place!

Our setup for the day:

Beautiful Kapalua Bay:

The water was still more wavy than I prefer but I couldn’t let the snorkel gear we paid for just gather dust in the trunk so after a while I went out and was content to stay close to shore  I paddled around and saw lots of fish—I kind of felt bad spying on them while they were going about their business.  I almost felt like I was intruding!

Ben of course was out swimming with turtles!  I went back and forth for awhile from beach chair to water while Ben did his thing.

After awhile the beach started really filling up and it ended up being the most crowded I had ever seen it.  I was glad we had gotten there early to have plenty of time to enjoy it.

On our way out, we saw a crowd of people on the beach as a large turtle was swimming very close to the shore.  I tried to get pictures of it as we walked.

By noon we were ready to pack up and get our steps in on the Kapalua coastal trail.  We have walked this trail several times but we always enjoy it.

This is Oneola Beach:

We walked the trail all the way over to the Ritz Carlton to reward ourselves with a burger and shake at the Burger Shack and it was oh so ono!

Back to Kapalua Beach:

Our next endeavor was to go check out the hike to the Nakalele blowhole.  Ben and I have done the hike to the blowhole twice but there is an alternate route and we wanted to see if this route would be easy enough for Ben's parents to do when we visit Maui on our cruise with them next year.

After a few wrong turns, we thought we had found the path.  However, it was very muddy and we finally got to a spot where it was completely impassable.  So that was the end of that. We did see a little scenery though.

It's a pretty challenging hike so we will just show Fran and Harvey the blowhole from the lookout point next year!

On the drive back, I got a picture of the cliffs along the northwest Maui coast--I had tried to get this picture on our trip in January so this time I was ready!

We were tired now so we went back to the condo to relax for a bit.  On the way to watch sunset, a crane appeared and followed us all the way from our condo to Castaways.  Birds love Ben--he is truly the animal whisperer!

We watched sunset from the lawn again.

After sunset, we grilled hot dogs and had banana bread for dessert.  Then it was rum and pog in the hot tub before bed after another awesome day!
