Today was our nine-year wedding anniversary and our plan
today was to tour the Maui Animal Farm and then have dinner on the rooftop at
Fleetwood’s, a restaurant owned by Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac.
We were up very early again
and once it got light, we had breakfast out on the lanai. The birds would always let me know when the
sun was coming up and I would go out and listen to them and watch it get light
outside.
My favorite breakfast--bagel with lillikoi cream cheese, apple banana, banana bread and pineapple! YUM!
The Maui Animal Farm was Ben’s pick for our
anniversary. Ben is a big animal lover
and loves goats and chickens. I wasn’t sure
what they were going to think of two forty-somethings taking a petting zoo tour
and hoped they wouldn’t think we were weird. We called ahead and the owner said to come and that another family would be joining us for the 9:30 am tour.
The owner, Heidi, came and greeted us and told us everything about her
farm, the animals, how she acquired the farm, her life before she bought it,
plans and ideas she has for it in the future, and showed us her tiny house that
sits on the property. It’s a bona fide
200 square foot tiny house because that is all she is allowed to have
there. Her stories were fascinating and
the view from there was just stunning.
I want this to be my view every day!
Heidi:
Her tiny house:
Oh yeah and there were animals too!
I fell in love with
Sandy the guinea pig and am now wondering where I can get one!
Ben got
to fulfill his dream of holding a chicken.
It was such a fun day!
The tour was over around 11:30 or so and then we went over
to Front Street in Lahaina town because I wanted to try a Dole Whip at Lappert’s ice cream. I was happy to finally get to try one but Ben’s
Heavenly Hana ice cream was better!
It
was pretty hot and we were tired of walking so we went back to the condo and
took a dip in the pool until it was time for dinner.
We took a Lyft to Fleetwood's and got there around 4:15 for happy hour. We had a couple of drinks until it was time
to go up to the roof for dinner. We were
wished happy anniversary and given glasses of free champagne, such a nice touch.
For dinner, we each got one of the two prix fixe menus with
me getting the salad, swordfish and cheesecake and Ben getting the butternut
squash soup, flat iron steak and crème brulee.
Everything was so yummy! I had
never had swordfish before and I liked it but Ben’s steak was even better. The lemongrass crème brulee was delicious!
We had a lovely sunset and enjoyed the Hawaiian sunset ceremony—thanks to the kumu (Hawaiian for "teacher") leading it, I finally know how to pronounce humuhumukunukunuapua’a!
It was a wonderful anniversary!
